Different sports have their own specific strength training program. Even strength training for athletes is totally different from typical bodybuilding workouts. The “Delavier's Mixed Martial Arts Anatomy” is designed only for Mixed Martial Artists to increase their strength to perform better in the ring.

I picked up this book because I am involved in MMA. I am passionate about the world's toughest sport MMA and I consider it as my extra curricular activity. I have been practicing MMA for a while.

This book is especially designed to do strength training only helpful for MMA athletes to increase their sport specific strength. The Book is full of more than 120 exercises. There are thousands of different workouts out there but not all are helpful for MMA fighters. So practicing all types of exercises is a waste of time. My after reading review (November 14, 2020):- No doubt, Quantum Theory is the most successful scientific discovery in the entire human history. At the same time it confronts us with bizarre paradoxes which contradict the logic of classical physics and come out with a lot of questions. And these scientific questions make the theory more fascinating and attract scientists from all over the world to learn and dig into this mysterious theory. Right now quantum theory is the hot topic in the entire science community. Our understanding of the fundamental nature of the universe and how it works is continuously changing as we are digging the theory more and more.

From high school physics classes I am fascinated about this new topic of physics. Quantum Theory has been developing for the last 100 years. It started in the late 19th century and continues. Right now the theory is in it’s infant state. However there are many famous physicists like Plank, Einstein, Bohr, Heisenberg, Shrodinger etc. contributed to develop the theory. It didn’t happen overnight. The puzzle of the wave-particle duality, Bohr’s “Copenhagen Interpretation”, the famous “dead and alive cat”, the “EPR Paradox”, Heisenberg’s uncertainty principle and the structure of an atom etc. are still unsolved.

Now come to this book. This introductory book is generally designed for teens to get interested in this fascinating theory. So obviously it is written in easy language and with less mathematical equations. So people who are not science students can also read and understand the book. Basically the book does not describe the theory itself. Instead it is more about the developments of quantum theory over the years - how different physicists contributed to discover different facts of quantum theory etc. This is more like the history book of quantum theory in a very fun and story telling way. It’s a very brief book full of illustrations. It’s very enjoyable to read. Everyone should read  and learn about the most fascinating discovery in human history, at least in introductory level.

[Book 57] Bodyweight Strength Training Anatomy by Bret Contreras

Book:- Bodyweight Strength Training Anatomy

Author:- Bret Contreras

Language:- English

Publisher:- Human Kinetics (T)

Published on:-  1 January 2013 (1st edition)

No. of Pages:- 224

My after reading review (November 11, 2020):-
Bodyweight exercise is probably the most common strength training exercise in the world. Resistance training using your own body weight is called bodyweight exercise. Some most common bodyweight exercises are push up, chin up, dip, sit up, squat etc. These types of exercises are not new to me. I have been doing bodyweight workouts for almost 15 years. But still there are so many different types of variations of different exercises. There are so many different types of exercises I need to know. That’s why I bought this book and read it.

As I expected I learned so many different types of new exercises from this book. Though the book is not complete. There are several exercises I do regularly that are not included in the book. However the book is full of useful and effective exercises. All over it is a great bodyweight exercise book for everyone from athletes to bodybuilders, for general fitness purpose users to fat loss etc. it doesn't matter if you are a beginner, intermediate or advanced user, the book fits the needs of everyone. The book covers whole body parts to workout - arms, neck and shoulder, chest, core, back, thighs, glutes and calves with full illustrations.

The best thing I like about bodyweight is That you don’t need to buy expensive gym equipment or don’t need to go to the gym to workout. You can workout at home with almost on equipment or using some household furniture. This book explains every exercise very effectively. So not doing workout and not being physically fit is just another unnecessary excuse in the case of bodyweight. So, stay fit, stay healthy.

My after reading review (June 21, 2020):-
Cryptocurrencies are the newest financial instrument and considered to be the most profitable market than traditional stock, commodity, forex, bond etc. because of it’s volatile market. And the trend is our friend. Not only that, starting trading in the crypto market is very easy. You don’t need to create a demat account nor a broker account to start trading. So there is no brokerage fee. Even exchange fees are significantly low. Just deposit some cryptocurrency into your preferable exchange and start trading if you have enough trading knowledge.

That’s why I got interested in crypto trading. And this book is good for any new comers. The book is divided into four separate parts -
  1. Basic of Blockchain, Cryptocurrency, Bitcoin, ICO etc.
  2. Fundamental Analysis
  3. Technical Analysis
  4. Trading Tips and Tricks
Fundamental and technical analysis are the two pillars of trading and investing. In this book the author describes these two topics at a very basic level. To master those you need to read other reference books. Here the author just introduces you with those topics. In part four of the book I have learnt so many valuable tips and tricks.

The book is good for any beginners level readers. As a beginner I enjoy it very much and learn lots of valuable stuff.

Book:- Arithmetic

Author:- Paul Lockhart

Language:- English

Publisher:-
Belknap Press: An Imprint of Harvard University Press

Published on:- August 21, 2017

No. of Pages:- 240

My after reading review (June 14, 2020):-
Arithmetic by Paul Lockhart is a book about arithmetic, not an arithmetic textbook. Let me explain what I mean by that. Unlike other books this one is not on any typical high school math book full of numerical problems and exercises. Even this book is not for kids, rather this book is for more advanced math readers. In this book the author describes the queen of mathematics called arithmetic so deeply and beautifully that he almost opens the anatomy of arithmetic to the reader.

In the first few lessons the author describes how the concept of counting things has been built over the years, which is the pillar of today's number systems. He took three imaginary ancient era tribes and showed that different number systems can be invented by different tribes, though the main principles are the same. Then he pulled some real ancient human civilizations such as Egypt, Rome, China, Japan, India and finally Europe and their different number systems have been developed over the years. Our today’s modern number system did not develop overnight. It took thousands of years and those ancient civilizations have a big contribution to it.

After counting things and number systems what comes under the radar of discussion are the four basic arithmetic operations - addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. The author let us deep dive into the discussion of four arithmetic operations and show how the algorithms of those operations have been developed. And how simple it became to calculate anything with just a pen and a paper.

Then a chapter on machines from counting machines ( i.e. mechanical odometer ) to calculating machines (i.e. electronic calculator) not to do repetitive tasks manually anymore. Also a chapter on fraction and another one on negative numbers. And lastly the author finishes the book with the chapter “The Art of Counting”. In this chapter he shows how different powerful counting methods such as “Permutation and Combination” save our lots of time and efforts to do complex calculations. A true mathematician always finds shortcut methods to save time and efforts.

Mathematics is my favourite subject and arithmetic is the core of mathematics. Though arithmetic is the only branch I didn’t like much. But after reading this book I start loving arithmetic - the fundamental pillar of mathematics.

My after reading review (May 30, 2020):-
Logo design and brand identity is a vital section of graphic design. As a graphic design student I have to improve my logo design skill. That’s why I picked up this book. This book is a very good book. But I was finding a book where I can get logo design ideas, logo design theories. In this book the author mostly describes how to deal with clients, how much to charge for a logo, how to deliver your work etc. This book is good for those who want to know that information. But this is not the book what I was looking for. I am a newcomer in this field. First and foremost I need to improve my logo design skill then I will consider learning how to deal with clients. So I am looking for a book where the author discusses tips and tricks on how to improve my logo design skill.

[Book 53] Color Correction And Enhancement With Adobe Photoshop by Michelle Perkins

Category:- Informative Book (Computer Skills)

Book:- Color Correction And Enhancement With Adobe Photoshop

Author:- Michelle Perkins

Language:- English

Publisher:- Amherst Media

Published on:- 18 March 2004

No. of Pages:- 128

My after reading review (May 26, 2020):-
I am doing a Diploma in Graphic Designing. Learning Photoshop is a vital part of graphic
design. Photoshop is a very powerful software and it has a wide range of use. Photoshop is
used in mainly three different areas - i. Photo Editing, ii. Graphic Designing and iii. Digital
Painting. Photo editing itself is a vast field. It contains i. Basic Photo editing, ii. Colour
correction, iii. Colour Enhancement, iv. Restoration, v. Retouching, vi. Composition, vii.
Manipulation.

This book is about colour correction and enhancement. I was looking for a new book on this
topic but I couldn’t get any. This book is okay but a little bit outdated. Nowadays technology is
evolving so fast that any technical book is becoming outdated so quickly after a few years of it’s
publication. This book was published in 2004 and now it’s 2020. So, obviously it’s outdated. But
still I find this book very helpful after 16 years of its publication. Because theories are the same
such as colour theory. Even I find that Photoshop’s tools, commands and menus haven't
changed very much.

First five chapters of this book covers topics such as digital files, colour theory and digital colour.
Then comes to the automated editing tools and simple editing tools and then two separate
chapters for two very important tools levels and curves. Levels and curves tools are so powerful
for photo editing that these two tools make Photoshop so unique and help to stand out from the
crowd of other photo editing software. And finally one chapter for colour corrections, one for
colour enhancements and one for colour to black & white converting. Lastly the book ends with
the chapter called “Preparing Images for Output”.

I have learned so much valuable information about photo editing from this book, especially
curves and levels. Though this book is outdated, I still recommend others to read this book who
want to learn photo editing and enhance their skills.

My after reading review (March 27, 2020):- Google Office Suite - an online office suite on your chrome browser, sounds interesting.

I used to use Microsoft Office. Then for a while I use LibreOffice - an open source office suite. Now I move on to Google’s online office suite - Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms.

I had MS Office installed on my computer. My PC is full of large softwares like adobe suits and others. It’s running out of memory. I don’t use the office suite frequently and also I don’t use all softwares of this suite.  I only use word processing software (MS Word) a little bit. So kipping this whole office suite installed in my PC is unnecessary for me. I decided to uninstall and decided to move on to this online office suite. Google Drive & Docs is very light and fast, runs on your chrome browser and no need to install anything. Though it’s not as good as MS Office, it’s okay to do some basic task. And Google is constantly trying to make it better.

Before I start using this I decided to read this basic guide book. It’s a quick guide book, not an in depth one. Also it’s an outdated one, published in 2015. Right now it’s 2020. Till now so many options might have been modified. I haven’t found any new edition of this book.

This Google office suite contents following applications -

    Google Drive (Online file storage)

    Google Docs (Word processor)

    Google Sheets (Spreadsheet creator)

    Google Slides (Presentation creator)

    Google Forms (Online forms creators)

    Google Drawing (Diagram drawing application)

Though it’s an online office suite, it also has the option to work offline, which is cool. It has work collaboration facilities in real time. It also comes with the mobile app (android and iOS) version. Though there are some limitations in editing your files in mobile versions.

Photo Editing Basics

Author:- Margaret Brown

Language:- English

Publisher:- Media Publishing Pty Ltd

Published on:- July 24, 2011

No. of Pages:- 32

My after reading review (March 24, 2020):- Recently I am doing a diploma in graphic designing. And right now I am learning Adobe Photoshop. To get more in depth knowledge I started reading different Photoshop related books. This is the first book I read and the most basic book out there. This book is a very short book, only 32 pages long. What I have learned so far about Photoshop is that this is the mother software for almost any image processing. All kinds of raster image related tasks can be done using Photoshop. And those tasks can be broadly divided into three categories -
  1. Photo Editing
  2. Graphic Designing
  3. Digital Painting
Photoshop has a vast area of applications. Even the photo editing section in general is a broad area. It can be divided into several subcategories -
i.  Basic Photo Editing
ii. Colour Correction
iii. Photo Enhancement
iv. Retouching
v. Restoration
vi. Composition
vii. Photo Manipulation

This book has been niche down into only “Basic Photo Editing”. Only basic photo editing has been discussed here and niche down even more sub niches. These are -
a. Cropping
b. Resizing
c. Brightness
d. Contrast
e. Colour Adjustment
f. Cloning
g. Healing
h. Sharpening
i. Noise Reduction
j. Red-Eye Correction
k. Dynamic Range Adjustment

In this book the author didn’t describe those topics in depth. She just mentioned them in her book. Also those editing are so basic that it can be done using any basic photo editing software out there. Learning Photoshop is not necessary for those kinds of editing.

Whatever, after reading this book I came to know what basic photo editing skills contents. Soon I will read more advanced level books on photo editing and review them here. Keep reading my blog.

Thank you.

[Book 50] The Lean Marketplace: A Practical Guide to Building a Successful Online Marketplace Business

Book:-
The Lean Marketplace: A Practical Guide to Building a Successful Online Marketplace Business

Author:- Juho Makkonen and Cristobal Gracia

Language:- English

Publisher:- Zaccheus Entertainment

Published:- 2018

No. of Pages:- 210

My after reading review (March 15, 2020):-  As an entrepreneur, establishing an online marketplace is my dream business. For a while I was planning to build my own online marketplace of digital intangible products. But I have no idea where to start, how to start and what to do to build an online marketplace. So I decided to read a good and updated book on this topic. And I choose this one “The Lean Marketplace”.

I know building a marketplace is not an easy task. As you need to solve the “chicken and egg” problem. You need to bring buyers and sellers to your marketplace at the same time. Sellers will not want to come if there is no buyer and buyers will not want to come if there is no seller in your marketplace. This is the most challenging part you need to solve.

I knew this is one of the most challenging (also most rewarding) business models right now. But after reading this book, it seems more tough than I expected. No work is easy, but this is seriously a hard one. You need time, you need financial power, you need lots of efforts, hard work, patience and goal oriented. You need to go through the “trial and error” process  again and again until you find what is working for your platform. You have to satisfy both sides of your marketplace  - supply side and customers. You have to consider your marketplace reputation, constant growth and lots of other important key factors.

After reading this book I realized that I am not ready to build a marketplace right now. This book opens my eyes. It helps me to understand myself if I am ready or not. This is the beauty of reading books. It helps you to prevent any mistakes. Books help you and guide you to do the work you want to do. It also helps you to realize if you are ready to do the job or not. So you do not take any foolish steps.

Whatever this is a great practical guide book on building an online marketplace. Authors describe everything in a great way with lots of examples of well established marketplaces, such as amazon, ebay, etsy, Airbnb, BlaBlaCar, Uber etc. They mentioned what those successful marketplaces did in their early days and what steps they are taking constantly to improve  The book is divided into three parts - 1. Getting Started,
           2. Building a Platform and
           3. Launching and Growing the Marketplace.
Though I feel that I am not ready right now, I put it in my business list. I will work on it in near future.
